Job summary
We are seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial, big thinker for a confidential new initiative within Alexa.

Have you ever dreamed about building Alexa, the most popular AI-powered personal assistant? Amazon’s Alexa and its Echo devices are used every day, by people you know, in and about their homes. Our mission is to set customers free in life, making Alexa an instantly familiar, always-available personal assistant. The team is working on a new confidential initiative to make it extremely easy for creators to distribute their content on Amazon devices.

Key job responsibilities

Work with product / business teams to help define experience as we onboard new content / providers.
Work with engineers on the team to help ensure we are delivering a consistent experience for our customers.
Actively participate in org wide design reviews to make sure right technical investments are being made to achieve long term success for the product.
Participate in peer code reviews. Make sure code is well architected and documented. Review associated tests to make sure there is coverage across the use-cases.

A day in the life
As part of a new and fast-growing team, you will be iterating on new features and products to help drive innovation and expansion. All our solutions are server-less and use AWS offerings such as AWS Batch, Sagemaker, Step Functions, ECS, ECR, Cloudwatch, API Gateway, Cloud Formation, CDK, Elastic Search, Lambda, S3, Dynamo DB etc.

As an SDE on our team, you will have an enormous opportunity to learn and build highly scalable and distributed solutions to deal with increasing content catalog and impact the design, architecture, and implementation of cutting-edge products. You will be responsible for systems that serve millions of customers per day, with obsessively high reliability and low operational overhead.

About the team
This is a brand new team. In 2021, we have the opportunity to build new products and features from the ground up, and we are looking for engineers who are not afraid of taking bold bets.

This new team will sit in our new headquarters in Northern Virginia, where Amazon will invest $2.5 billion dollars, occupy 4 million square feet of energy efficient office space, and create at least 25,000 new full-time jobs.

The team is responsible for building solutions that help content creators integrate/distribute and monetize their content on Amazon devices. The system helps ingest thousands of media items daily from our partners and at the same time monitor the streams for any defects that might impact the experience. We integrate with the advertising systems to help monetize the content on behalf of our customers and help power analytics for our partners to empower them to have visibility on the performance of their content. Its long-term mission is to move the needle for Amazon’s future top-line growth.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or 2+ year relevant work experience
2+ years professional experience in software development
Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design
Computer Science fundamentals in data structures
Computer Science fundamentals in algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
Programming experience in at least one modern programming language such as C, C++, Java

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs
Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through launch
Familiarity with front-end Javascript libraries, like Ajax and JQuery
Proficiency with SQL, and SQL databases
Understanding of distributed data storage and caching
