GTL is searching for a Engineering Manager who can take on a leading role in voice biometrics as it relates to our VOIP Platform suite of products. This team develops and evolves our voice over IP solutions which include proprietary SIP based phone platforms and Asterisk. Services within this area allow our customers to communicate via multiple technologies such as tablets, cell phones, and custom communication devices. Multiple platforms make up our VOIP offering which include C, Microsoft C#, and Ruby. In this visible role, you will help manage this family of related systems and provide leadership to a technical stack of talented engineers who contribute to this product line. A sound technical understanding of voice biometrics, the VOIP stack, along with personnel management skills will be required to succeed.

GTL’s VOIP engineering team embraces a unique style of Agile software development where a small core set of engineers, QA, and Product team members deliver on a roadmap of key Epics that are broken down into sprints within the systems they own. These teams are cross-functional and collaborate with multiple teams who work on related systems and supporting applications within our ecosystem. You will be responsible for organizing and running these teams from epic inception through delivery and warranty.

Responsibilities:

• Lead voice biometric solutions for GTL’s VOIP platforms and products
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and others to insure the design, development, and quality release of all software artifacts using Agile
• Scrum or experience in similar Agile development methodologies
• Work in conjunction with Product Management to plan and deliver all future modifications for your assigned product domain.
• Software implementation and maintenance (including unit and integration testing) of defined Architecture/Design for all assigned applications and systems.
• Partner with multiple teams and cross functional groups in order to make sure solutions delivered meet any required integrations, dependencies, and timelines supporting our product roadmap.
• Maintain compliance and security standards such as PCI, SOC, SAS70, etc.
• Intimate understanding and command of one’s application architectures, data persistence patterns, build pipelines and business rules.
• Conceive, organize, and promote engineering roadmap items that support the success of your assigned product domain.
• Conduct backlog grooming, story-mapping, sprint planning, sprint review, and retrospectives for the Scrum teams within your product domain.
• Refine, estimate, and decompose user stories into technical implementation tasks in close collaboration with the individual contributors.
• Identify complex situations that may need dedicated discussion to resolve; follow through with concrete meeting artifacts representing recommendations, discoveries, and decisions.
• Ensure the creation and quality of documentation, including flowcharts, diagrams, and written documentation describing features and functionality.
• Ensure that coded features and functionality meet requirements, including those related to system performance, response, redundancy, security, scalability, monitoring, metrics, and tracking.
• Drive continued adoption of test automation strategies and technologies, staying abreast of current industry trends and best practices.
• Contribute to organizational process improvement by identifying pain points and lobbying for change by presenting well thought-out proposals to peers and leadership.
• Ensure all new code is properly reviewed using code review tools and best practices.
• Help the product owners maintain a well-groomed and organized backlog.
• Serve as an escalation point of contact for production issues when related to recent releases and items beyond tier three.
• Provides clear progress and status to the leadership team and if issues arise quickly identifies options and recommendations for resolution.
• Serve as the main driver of delivery of engineering artifacts and product releases and enhancements by collaborating effectively with multiple internal and external groups in order to execute on identified roadmap and backlog items to ensure their successful and timely delivery.

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field preferred; 4 years of experience in lieu of degree AND;
• A minimum of 8 years of application development experience, to include a minimum of 3 years leading and/or managing teams.
• Experience in voice biometrics a plus
• Ability to define scope, gather estimates, and execute against a well laid out plan for delivery.
• Strong leadership skills with clear communication and documentation capabilities.
• Project Management and ability to directly supervise a large team of software engineers.
• Experience in the delivery of software using SCRUM methodologies.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively.
• Strong technical skills and ability to “roll up sleeves” to support software engineers.
Additional Technical Qualifications:
Project Management:
• JIRA, or similar ticketing system experience.
• Confluence or similar collaboration/documentation experience.
Engineering Tools:
• Git familiarity, Jenkins, Crucible, or similar tools is a plus.
• CI/CD w Docker containers is a plus
• Test automation concepts and tools experience.
Languages, Frameworks, Technologies:
• MySQL / MariaDB / MS SQL Server
• Cloud concepts, AWS EC2, CloudFront; S3 is a plus.
• Web presentation lay technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
