Job Summary:
As a Senior Software Engineer at Research Square, you will work in a team environment to design, develop, test, and implement software applications, APIs, and third-party integrations. You will work closely with key stakeholders from across the company to identify areas of improvement, scope project work, and work with your peers to complete projects. As a senior member of the team, you will be entrusted to lead initiatives and to contribute in a leadership capacity including mentoring, sprint planning, and project estimation.
Our current stack consists of Next.js single page applications built on top of PHP supported RESTful endpoints. We take advantage of ChakraUI components supported by a Figma-based design system. We use Docker for complete development and production lifecycle. We host on AWS and use Cloudflare for CDN.
Having a good command of English is essential; collaboration is vital in our day to day work, so being able to communicate your ideas and understand others is critical.
Essential Functions:
Write quality code that is reliable and maintainable using industry best practices (e.g., style, security, testability, and efficiency).
Diagnose, debug, and optimize performance of web applications.
Participate in design and code reviews, pair and mentor fellow engineers.
Provide guidance to company stakeholders on upcoming challenges and participate in project planning.
Stay abreast of industry standards and emerging technologies and promote their use within our team.
Job Requirements:
Education
– B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineer, or a technology-related field or equivalent experience
Minimum Qualifications
– You have senior level experience (7+ years) in software development with experience in either PHP or React and excitement to learn both.
– Proficient in English communications both written and verbal.
– Experience working with modern web frameworks
– Experience using a relational database: MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.
– You are able to work with other engineers to define and implement API contracts.
– You can translate product specifications and designs into clean and performant code in a collaborative manner.
– You are capable of working autonomously with remote teams in various time zones.

Additional Desired Qualifications:
– Experience with any of the following: Symfony, Laminas, Next.js, React, MySQL, ElasticSearch, AWS Services
– Experience building RESTful APIs and documentation
– Experience with academic publishing (or academia more generally)
– Experience developing eCommerce solutions
