Why work at Grasple as Developer?

These are some reasons we think you will like working at Grasple as a developer:

  • You can make a lot of impact because you will be working in a small team, making decisions together and having ownership.
  • You will get lots of freedom to experiment and learn/try new things.
  • You will work on complex and challenging projects:
    • A new WYSIWYG editor for math exercises, allowing teachers to create the best exercises with personalised feedback on common mistakes.
    • Make collaboration via version control available in the platform, such that also the non-technical teachers can easily work together to create and improve open exercises and make them accessible for everyone.
    • Improve scalability and user experience to make the platform more future-proof. We are a scale-up with a small development team. This means we have a first foundation which is being used a lot, but at the same time allows for improvements to be made by an expert like you.
    • Your own ideas on how to help teachers collaborate on open exercises and let them use these exercises in their courses and tests.
  • You will work together with experienced developers with a focus on making development and deployment quick and easy:
    • You will form the development team together with 2 senior full-stack developers.
    • Work using Git and continuous integration.
    • Use the IDEs, tools and setup which works best for you.
  • Work in a flow every day. As a developer you want to be able to work undisturbed. At Grasple we believe in ‘deep work’ and ‘flow’. We make sure everyone can work focussed, whether it is at home or at the office. And of course we have lunch together, a cup of coffee whenever we like, and spontaneous drinks at the end of the day :)

Or the way Eric Bouwers, Full-Stack developer with 13 years of experience of which 2 at Grasple, explains: “I really like to contribute to our mission of making education open for everyone. At Grasple I have the freedom to independently take on new challenges, to experiment, and to influence the roadmap and choices we make. Together with the team we improve open education a little bit every day!

Grasple: mission, innovations, and open business model

Grasple is a social enterprise. Our mission is to make knowledge on math and statistics openly accessible to everyone. We strive to help people learn these difficult concepts by practicing with high-quality exercises, created by educators who build on each other’s work.

To achieve this we have built an online practice platform with which teachers can create exercises and online lessons together and share them openly with their students and the rest of the world.

To ensure we can keep doing this and not be dependent on donations, we have created a business model very different from regular publishers: free for individuals, and educational institutions pay for extra functionalities, integration, and support.

Grasple is being used at more than 20 universities (30% of the Dutch market), among which are the Delft University of Technology and University of Utrecht. Their students have already answered more than 30 million exercises.

The question now is: how can we let even more teachers work together on open exercises using Grasple? This is where you come in! As an experienced developer with new knowledge and insights, you can design and build a better application with new user-friendly features to help teachers create, improve, and use open math exercises.

In short: 4 reasons why we think you like working with us:

  • You will work on the open education of the future;
  • Get more freedom, experience and responsibility compared to a larger company;
  • Complex and challenging projects to work on with a small team of experienced developers;
  • Work in a passionate team on a social mission.

Other perks of the job

  • A competitive salary
  • Swapfiets (free rental bike in Amsterdam)
  • Laptop
  • Public Transport compensation
  • Fun team activities and free lunch
  • Beautiful office at a great location! (MarineTerrein Amsterdam)
  • Flexibility in working remote or at the office
