Computer Vision Engineer (contractor, remote)

ISeeChange is a data and engagement company dedicated to helping cities combat climate change. Our AI-enabled platform cross-references community-reported events with real-time data, enabling sustainable, equitable and efficient infrastructure and public works projects in municipalities across North America. Cities, engineers, utilities, and researchers use our software as a service to site, design, build, and monitor climate solutions that work best for communities.

We are looking for a motivated part-time Computer Vision Engineer to join our interdisciplinary team of scientists as part of the Community in the Loop (CIL) project. This is a short-term contracted position, but a full-time opportunity may become available for this candidate in 2023.

The Computer Vision Specialist will work closely with our Natural Language Processing (NLP) expert, environmental engineers, and resilience researchers to develop new approaches to climate adaptation and resilience planning.

With users in 118 countries and public clients in New Orleans, Boston, and Greater Miami, we are expanding our team and launching new products ahead of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Working with our interdisciplinary team to research, develop, evaluate, and optimize various computer vision and deep-learning models to identify climate impacts from community-sourced content. This includes:
  • Modeling analysis and application of ISeeChange data to research or client objectives.
  • Timely communication and responses.
  • Organizing and breaking down ideas for and with your teammates, this includes potentially drawing, sketching and prototyping as needed.
  • Active listening and identifying how client/partner needs fit into the larger roadmap.
  • Collaborating with the product team to help create a queue of upcoming features.
  • Enthusiastic participation, effort, and timeliness in meetings, and collaborative sessions (which may be for other teammates’ areas, business development, community  partnership development, and strategy sessions).
  • Assisting the team’s Data Scientist to envision business and partner priorities for the client-side modeling and predictive analytics.
  • Research and writing.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, Photoanalysis or in a related field is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in computer vision and/or deep-learning for object detection and tracking, along with semantic or instance segmentation.
  • Strong experience in using both basic and advanced image processing algorithms for feature engineering.
  • Proficiency in ​​TensorFlow, PyTorch, and/or OpenCV
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effectively communicating with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Preferred but not required — interest or experience in working on issues related to climate,  urban planning and infrastructure, or hydraulics.
